RESTAURANT GUIDE – MARRAKECH

FOOD MEETS INTERIOR. 

Of course we attach great importance to good food and want to get an insight into the local cuisine. However, it tastes much better if the interior and the mood are just right. Three convincing spots in Marrakech, where you can have a good time, can be found in this article. 

1. Spot

La Salma is located in the middle of the medina. The famous market takes place on the large square and invites you to go shopping. In a side alley you then enter a restaurant - La Salama stretches over three floors and convinces with its attention to detail. The interior is different in every corner, birds hang in cages on the ceiling and palm trees as far as the eye can see. 

2. Stop

The Mandarin Oriental is known all over the world, also in Marrakech the generosity and the minimalistic design impresses. At the pool there is a restaurant, the menu is less Moroccan and convinces with steak, noodles or fish. For a day pass you can use the facility even without a booked room - with the beautiful pool, the facility and peace really worth a thought. 

3. Stop 

This is a dinner spot. The restaurant is not located directly in the centre, but in a corner surrounded by apartments and hotel complexes. A slightly more chic dress code may be worn and the food is accordingly fine. appetizer, main course and dessert. Leonardo di Caprio has also enjoyed the ambience and good food here - we certainly enjoyed it just as much.

Fast fashion and slow fashion always provide discussion in the fashion world. Andrea, founder of the ABURY Collection, has set herself the task of acting instead of talking. The pieces in the collections are handmade and each piece has its own history and cultural background. Transparency is an important keyword, learn more. 

About the ABURY brand? 

ABURY is much more than a fashion label. ABURY is a platform that brings together traditional artisans with modern designers from different cultures. The designers live and work with the artisans on quality processes and design - resulting in unique collections. We sell these collections - and thus ensure a fair income for the artisans and an entry into the world of fashion for the designers. In addition, 50% of the profit goes to the ABURY Foundation, with which we support educational projects in the respective countries, among other things.

How did the idea of a fashion label based on handwork and cultural diversity come about? 

When Andrea lived in Marrakech, she was fascinated by the skills of the craftsmen and at the same time shocked by their living conditions: Cheap imports from Asia destroy the local market and lead to a drop in prices and quality. This makes it incredibly difficult for traditional craftsmen to earn a fair income with their craft. At the same time, children no longer want to learn the craft, which not only leads to increased youth unemployment, but also to the loss of cultural heritage. Here we want to create solutions with ABURY. We believe in the power of collaboration. In an age where xenophobia seems to grow again, it is all the more important to celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity.

What does transparency mean for ABURY? 

For us, transparency means disclosing the entire value chain of a product or collection. We want to show where our products are made, who makes them, how they are made, and what stories they tell. We do this through all our communication channels, but above all through our blogzine One of a Mind. 

How are the collections different from commercial shops? 

Strictly speaking, we are also a commercial shop, because we trade and want to earn money with it, otherwise we would not be able to survive! But - we are not only profit-oriented!

Two attributes are important to us here:

1. the production takes place under fair conditions and we pay a fair price to the craftsmen for their work.

2) We reinvest 50% of the profits in other educational projects and the ABURY Foundation to enable additional progress.

The current age is known for its fast pace and so-called "disposable consumption" - how does ABURY tackle this? 

Fashion still lives today from the rapidly changing trends. We want to inspire consumers to change their mindset: The concept of fast fashion - cheap mass production and poor quality - will always inevitably lead to people being exploited and the environment being harmed. With a lot of joy in life, we offer good quality and a timeless design at the same time. An ABURY bag is there to be carried for a lifetime. A fair payment for the craftsmen is a matter of course and additionally we realize social projects.

What does it mean to carry an ABURY bag? 

An ABURY bag is a fashion statement that the buyer is concerned about what is happening in the world! ABURY conveys an attitude to life that builds a bridge between sustainability and joyful luxury! And that's what we're all looking for right now.

TRAVEL GUIDE – L´ORANGERAIE

RIAD TO STAY. 

We have to look for an accommodation when we travel. We pay attention to many things: we want to be quickly in the center, but we also want our oasis of peace, want to dive into another world, get to know a new culture and still feel safe. Today we take a closer look at a riad in the centre of Marrakech. 

HEART OF THE CITY.

Completely stressed you avoid the motorcycles on the streets, the heat rises to your head and your nose has to get used to the smell. A situation that doesn't exactly scream for holidays and relaxation. But behind a door along the hectic alley there is the RIAD L´Orangeraie in Marrakech. All of a sudden, the bustle is gone. 

The joy rises Immediately and you can´t stop being astonished - the attention and the Moroccan touch in every detail. The host is very kind and comes originally from France. He has fulfilled his dream with this riad. As guests you can definitely dream here, too.

The main building provides enough space to relax. The pool invites you to read or swim, the common living room has a lot of games and cosy corners. The roof terrace has a special charm with a view over the city or to the pool in the first floor. You can walk to the famous Square with only one step out of the door.

RIAD TRIGMINO

WHERE TO SLEEP. 

There are two buildings, because the main Riad has only 7 rooms and is very popular. This means that an associated building is within walking distance. One apartment on 4 floors. Living room, 2x bedrooms and the terrace. The main building is the one with the incredibly beautiful pool and a large roof terrace for breakfast. Couples, friends or families are welcome. 

Experience. 

We were greeted very warmly with a typical Moroccan mint tea. Our home was to be the extra apartment, so we, Grace from @mydailycouture and I, had to walk down the street for a minute and turn left to the building. A complete apartment spread over 4 floors with two bedrooms - perfect for a girls' trip, a small family or a couples' holiday. 

We walked back to the main Riad and used the pool and the large roof terrace. Our apartment also has a beautiful terrace, which invites you to play games in the evening or long nights with drinks and talks.

We were allowed to stay here for free and I am incredibly grateful to have got to know this place and to be able to really recommend it to you! We were speechless and felt very comfortable. It is also a great advantage that you are in the middle of the city if you want to get to know Marrakech.
